I first encountered Human Design in 2021 during a group coaching call. It intrigued me so much, I couldn’t wait to learn more about my own Human Design! I even ended up undertaking training to provide basic Human Design readings for others myself.
It never ceases to amaze me how accurate peoples Human Design charts are when I am providing readings for people I know well – and this gives me great confidence in the system as a whole.
I find Human Design such a vast topic with so many different components, so I’m going to try to break it down into bite-sized blog posts for you all to digest!
So, what is Human Design?
The Human Design system draws from four ancient wisdoms including Astrology, the Hindu Chakra system, Jewish Kabbalah and the Chinese I Ching; as well as science to give you the unique blueprint of who you are as a person. Your own personal chart (or bodygraph, as it is also known) is calculated from your exact date, time and place of birth.
Astrology
Astrology is the study of the movements and positions of celestial bodies, particularly planets and stars, and the influence they have on human affairs and the natural world. Astrology is represented within Human Design through planet placements at the time of our birth (conscious personality) and at the time of our design, 88 days prior to birth (unconscious personality).
Hindu Chakra System
The chakra system dates back to between 1500-500BC in India. In present day Western culture, each chakra is said to be associated with a particular function of our human experience. The 9-centred model of chakras as seen through the Human Design System describes the mechanics of each individuals energetic system, and provides us with a particular strategy and inner authority for navigating through life.
Jewish Kabbalah
The Tree of Life is an energetic representation of a human being and comes from the core of Jewish Kabbalistic teachings. The branches of the Tree of Life are parallels to the channels in the Human Design chart.
Chinese I Ching
The I’Ching is an ancient Chinese divination manual and book of wisdom. It has served for thousands of years as a guide to an ethical life and an oracle of ones own personal future. The 64 hexagrams of the I’Ching correspond to the 64 codons of our DNA and relate to the gates within your chart in Human Design.
Science
Neutrinos are tiny, fundamental particles that are produced by stars and our sun. They are so small they pass through everything, including us. At the moment of our birth, we are imprinted by the information carried by the Neutrino stream via the planets. This imprint is reflected within our Human Design chart.
How can knowing your Human Design help you?
Karen Curry Parker imparts in her book ‘Understanding Human Design’, when you have a better understanding of yourself, you can make choices in life that are better aligned with who you really are.
Your Human design chart provides specific insight into:
- Your personality traits
- Your natural talents and tendencies (the good, and the not so good!)
- How your energy functions
- How to navigate your life in an authentic way that flows for you
- The best way for you to make important decisions

Want to discover more about your own Human Design?
There’s so much information out there, it can be hard to know where to start when first learning more about your human design!
I’m not currently offering readings as I need to get my own work-life balance sorted before I commit to putting anything else on my plate, however I’m happy to share the following resources on human design that I love!
- myHumanDesign with Jenna Zoë – an amazing website and also a nifty little app that will provide you with easy to understand information on your own human design.
- Karen Curry Parker – Quantum Human Design website, and any of her great books (if you’re a reader, like me!) to help you understand human design in general.
- myBodyGraph – This website gives a great basic overview of all aspects of your chart.
You absolutely do not have to live life based on your Human Design – but if you do, you’ll probably find that things flow a lot easier for you. I can personally say there are definite benefits to living life by your design!
